To be fair, there were other French-inspired food puns we could have chosen for the title of this article, including “Escar-NO!” But we did not try the escargot, nor do we have plans to try the escargot. If you’re a fan, this is the place for you! Hopefully you’re curious about what we did have for dinner at Lumiere’s.
What is Lumiere’s?
Named for the distinguished candelabra in Beauty and the Beast, Lumiere’s is a French-inspired dining room. It does not have a show, special effects, or character interaction. Lumiere’s is simply one of the dining rooms on the Disney Magic.
Lumiere’s is located on Deck 3 Midship, directly off the grand lobby. In fact, we all walk right past it when boarding the ship initially.
Bread!

Keeping things simple, the bread service is a basic French country bread served with an olive spread. We are not fans of olives, so we passed on the spread. The bread itself was nothing special, besides being a step up, or sideways, from regular dinner rolls. Again, butter is served with the signature dip in case you’d rather go that route.
We love the brie!

It was love at first bite several years ago on the Disney Dream when we first tried this. We tried the Fried Brie, because we love fried cheese, and any time we are on a Disney ship that includes fried brie, such as Lumiere’s, this is a must have for us!
Two wedges of deep fried brie cheese, served with an orange and cranberry chutney. The chutney adds a fruity texture to the creamy cheese, which is a welcome addition. Without, it’s simply one note, so be sure to include the chutney with every bite.
Obviously, this dish has to receive our Seal of Approval. But don’t fret, dear reader! Just because you’re not on the Disney Magic doesn’t mean no fried brie for you! This appetizer is also available at Royal Court/Royal Palace on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, respectfully. If you’re on the Disney Wonder, it can be found at Triton’s.
This fish dish was delish!

Our first entree choice was the Oven Baked Salmon Royale. While not nearly as good as the tuna steak we raved about previously, this was a nice piece of salmon. While it was cooked nicely, and the crust added a nice texture, the sauce below it was kind of forgettable.
If you’re looking for a light dinner, this is a good choice. If you’re looking for a second main course to enjoy, this also is a good choice without being too filling, compared to some of the other main dish options.
We had a little lamb…

The main course we were looking forward to tonight is the Roasted Rack of Lamb. The breading consisted of breadcrumbs, garlic, and Dijon mustard (to hold it all together). This lamb was wonderful! A hearty portion with a delicious flavor.
The potatoes and Brussels sprouts on the side were fine as side dishes. While not served with a mint jelly, there was a burgundy rosemary sauce which was a more welcome addition instead. Overall, this is a great choice for dinner!
Soufflé means…soufflé.

Dessert shouldn’t require instructions. Dear reader, when this Grand Marnier Soufflé was set down in front of us, we weren’t sure what to do. Luckily, our server saved the day! That is why we are showing you this picture, so if you’re ever staring down a soufflé with no idea how this works, you now know how to correctly enjoy it.
As for the flavor, it wasn’t bad. It’s like a cake with a now-liquid center. Like a mushy cake, if you will. The flavors were not overpowering. It wasn’t mind blowing. It was a dessert. A French dessert, but a dessert nonetheless.
If you’ve never tried one before, we say request it. Otherwise, try one of the other desserts instead.

That’s a wrap.
Overall, dinner started strong with the fried brie, stayed strong with the rack of lamb, and ended a little flat with the soufflé. While there is no dinner show and no pomp and circumstance with dinner, some times a peaceful dinner helps to wind down after a busy day. A chance to sit back, relax, and let the dining staff present to you: your dinner.
Thanks for letting us be your guest, Lumiere!
