Where to start, where to start, where to start. We don’t like writing articles like this but honesty and integrity are important. With that in mind, we went to dinner at Royal Court with expectations of a nice dinner. Our previous night at Enchanted Garden was fine, so we had smiliar expectations when we sat down tonight.
Royal Court on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy is French-inspired, with a general Disney Princess theme. Each section of the restaurant has a mural to one Disney princess, and there’s an underlying Cinderella motif, such as this light fixture.

We forgot the bread!
The bread service this evening was a French Country Bread with an Olive Spread. Unfortunately, we forgot to take pictures of it! Hopefully it was good, we don’t remember. Maybe someone will leave us a comment and tell us.
Where’s the rest of it?!

Our appetizer of choice this evening was Iced Lobster and Jumbo Shrimp. This is what was placed in front of us. Where’s the rest of it? There’s only 3 shrimp here! What’s with the X with asparagus, is this an appetizer or an exorcism? Also, where’s the lobster?

Nevermind, you guys, we found the lobster! You would think for the price of a Disney cruise, we could get a larger piece of lobster. The “less is more” philosophy does not apply here. In this case, less is less. Three shrimp and a forgetable piece of lobster. You know what? Don’t get this. Forget the Seal of Approval, this is a candidate for the Disney Rover Seal of Disapproval!
Get this instead!

We had this several years ago on the Disney Dream. We loved it then, and we love it now. What is it? Fried Brie! Served with an Orange and Cranberry Chutney. We love fried cheese, and fried Brie sounds fancy.
This was great! The cheesy was gooey and melty, and the chutney was fantastic. The chutney was good with the cheese. It was good without the cheese. Whichever you prefer, if you’re a fan of breaded and deep fried cheese (think Culver’s cheese curds but fancy), we think you’ll enjoy this.
Chateaubri-what?

We have a confession: we’re not foodies. If you’ve been a long-time reader, you probably know this already, but if you’re new (welcome!), you’ll figure this out soon enough. With that in mind, we don’t know what Chateaubriand is. We had to Google it. This is Chateaubriand-Roasted Filet Steak. Served with New Potatoes, Green Beans, and a Red Wine Jus.
Sure. That sounds nice. We saw steak on the menu and wanted to have steak. The steak itself was a thicker cut, which we found out later is characteristic of Chateaubriand. The steak itself was tender but didn’t have much flavor. We found out later it was missing the Bearnaise sauce on the side.
The new potatoes and green beans were average. Overall, this main course was average. Nothing stood out, nothing blew us away. Perhaps there was something better to try on the menu, but this was recommended to us.
Veggies for funsies!

Remember when we said we don’t like mushrooms? Some how we requested the Wild Mushroom Stuffed Pasta. Served with Watercress, and Shaved Parmasan Cheese.
All things considered, this was better than our iced shrimp appetizer. The mushrooms didn’t bother us, and they had an earthy flavor. The vegetable broth was warm and comforting.
If you like mushrooms, and you’re concerned your main course won’t be filling enough, request the wild mushroom stuffed pasta as well. We felt that it rounded out our dinner without being too much food in total. Plus, we’re eating vegetables! Mom-approved.
The Triple Dessert Endurance Round!

Dessert started off simple enough with this lovely Apple Tart Tatin. Carmelized baked apple, served with vanilla ice cream. Think of it as a fancy apple pie a la mode. The apples were crisp, warm, and delicious. The crust was at the bottom, flaky and delicious. And what’s not to love about vanilla bean ice cream? Not a heavy dessert at all, which is just what we needed.
And then we opened our big mouth…

Our original intention was to request the Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brûlée, based on the previous night’s experience. Much to our surprise, this crème brûlée was terrible! They basically forgot to torch the top layer. So that crunchy top layer was missing, and we were left with a custard with some slightly toasted sugar on top. Completely disappointing!
Round Three: Fight!
We made the mistake of telling our server that when we were on the Disney Dream, we ordered the Grand Marnier Soufflé but had no idea how to eat it. Dessert should not need instructions! He surprised us by bringing the soufflé out with our second dessert, and proceeded to personally demonstrate how to eat a soufflé.

If you know, you can skip to the next paragraph. For those of you unsure, the way to eat this Grand Marnier Soufflé is to poke the center with your fork and basically make a hole in the center. Then take the sauce that is on the side and pour it in the middle. That’s it! Enjoy!
The Grand Marnier Soufflé was nice and warm, and the Grand Marnier sauce had a very nice flavor to it. Unfortunately for us, we had to muscle our way through this third dessert so we were pretty stuffed by the time we were done. Note to future self: do not casually talk about a third dessert, or you may end up having to eat your words.
Two Murals
We had mentioned earlier about the Disney Princess theme throughout Royal Court. We didn’t get to see every mural, but we did get to see and take pictures of the Cinderella and the Beauty and the Beast murals.

These murals were very nicely done! They were made with individual tiles, so there was some time spent in creating these murals. Have you seen our article about the tile murals in the Cinderella Castle Breezeway? These murals remind us of those.
Too full.
While we didn’t intend to leave Royal Court completely stuffed, we left completely stuffed. We blame the third dessert that we didn’t officially request, but were peer pressured into eating anyway. Our server brought it out, so we had to eat it!
Overall, dinner at Royal Court was okay. Obviously the iced shrimp and lobster was a disappointment. The Fried Brie was a big hit. Our steak was just okay, as was the mushroom ravioli. Dessert was a mixed bag and would have been the highlight if it wasn’t for the un-toasted crème brûlée.
Here are the two menus!
If you’re curious of the rest of the menu offerings for dinner at Royal Court, have a look at the menu. Below the dinner menu, we also included the dessert menu. We’re trying something new this time! Click on each menu to bring up a larger image to read it easier.

That’s it for us!
So that was dinner. We were warned ahead of time that Royal Court dinner isn’t the greatest, but we did have some favorites. Hopefully you’ll also find some dishes you enjoy if you have dinner here on the Disney Dream or the Disney Fantasy.
Thank you very much for reading, and we’ll see you next time!
