Alrighty. So we’ve been immersed in Marvel at Worlds of Marvel. We have celebrated nuptials at Arendelle. Then we feasted like pirates on Pirate Night. Now, for our last dinner on the Disney Wish, we travel back in time to the roaring 20s. Back when Walt Disney Studios was founded: 1923!
1923 is located on deck 3 midship, just off the lobby of the grand hall. When you board the ship on embarkation day, you step in to the grand hall where all the festivities are happening and princesses are waving to you from the Grand Hall Stage. If you turn around away from the stage, you’ll be facing 1923.
Fun fact about 1923: it’s one restaurant but it has two entrances: the Walt Disney side and the Roy Disney side. A not-fun fact: when 1923 appears in your dining rotation, they don’t tell you which entrance to go to.
The theme for 1923 is the golden age of Walt Disney animation. Throughout the restaurant are display cases featuring all kinds of animation relics from concept art to props. If you love Disney history, you’re going to love the displays here. While the two dining rooms are identical in layout, they are not identical in displays, so remember to poke around the other dining room when you’re done with dinner to take in all the Disney history.
But enough about all that, let’s get to the food! Oh, yeah, I forgot to take a picture of the bread again. But in my defense, the bread was a fig and olive loaf. I hate olives with a fiery passion, so I don’t know if I even tried these.
An appetizer with history!

For an appetizer, I chose Hyperion Four-Cheese Tri-Color Tortelloni. This comes with artichoke, sun-dried tomato, and baby spinach. Fun Disney fact: when Disney needed to move to a larger studio to accommodate the growing staff, the name of the street it was located on was Hyperion. This studio is where Mickey Mouse was born and also where the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was produced.
Soup!

No fun history with this one. However this tasty concoction is Pulled Guinea Ham Corn Chowder, served with Yukon gold potatoes, cilantro, and smoked bacon. It sounds as good as it tastes. It was delicious!
Yep, steak again.

This tasty entree is 1923 Peppered Filet Mignon. With it comes buttered long green beans wrapped in bacon, crushed fingerling potato hash (fancy way of saying mashed potatoes?), and a pink pepper cafe au lait, whatever that is. Dipping sauce, to you and me. Au Jus, if you will. It was good! I don’t know if the steak needed to be dipped into anything. It was good with it, and without it.
Dessert.

For dessert, I chose the Atwater Fuji Apple Cheesecake. This scrumptious dessert has a sweet dough shell, kind of like a tart. Caramelized apples, cinnamon cheesecake, and rolled oat crumble. It was exactly like a fancy tart. I think that was a gold flake on top for extra pizazz but don’t quote me on it. It was nice, albeit a little small.
Fun Disney Fact: Atwater is a reference to Atwater Village District in Los Angeles, a frequent hangout spot for Walt and a number of his studio animators.
Optional dress up alert!
1923 has become an unofficial dress-up dinner on the Disney Wish. While it’s not required, and it’s not an official suggestion, some guests have taken it upon themselves to dress up in various 1920’s style outfits for dinner at 1923. I’ve seen flapper girls, newsboys, and even the occasional 1920s gangster. It’s a fun way to look the part and step back in time where radio was king, Model T cars were in mass production, and jazz was a hit. Also the Great Depression, but we’re remembering the positives here!
Of the three dining rooms, 1923 is the quietest. It’s the only dining room that doesn’t have a show, music, or characters. If 1923 is the last dining room on your dinner rotation, it will also be the location of breakfast on disembarkation day. Remember to take a look around in the Walt and Roy dining rooms to take in all the rich Disney animation history on display!
We covered all of the dinners on the Disney Wish. Join us next time for a quick lunch at Festival of Foods, the quick service dining closest to the pools and funnel on deck 11.
